Acquafondata. Remains of the Castle of Casalcassinese

Casalcassinese is a small village near Acquafondata that has had an independent but parallel history.

The first residential nucleus was built around the year 1000 in the area of ​​a castle that in 1089 was donated by Count Ugo di Venafro to Montecassino.

The name means 'land border' because it was between the area of San Benedetto and the county of Venafro.

From 1123 with Casalcassinese submitted to the authority of the Abbey of Montecassino.
