Cittaducale. Ancient Baths of Cotilia or Vespasian

The Ancient Baths of Cotilia or Vespasian spa is located in Cotilia in the town of Cittaducale, a peaceful area of green valleys, unspoilt woods and meadows. Cittaducale was crossed by the ancient roman Cotilia Road.

Here you will find the impressive archaeological complex of the second century BC, that remained in full operation until at least the fourth century A.D., known as the Baths of Cotilia or Baths of Vespasian.

The complex is described and praised for its beauty by various writers of the Roman period and here the Emperor Vespasia, who was born in the near city of Rieti, used to go to spend his holidays and it is the last place he was seen before his death in AD 79
