Monterotondo. Ancient Nomentum-Eretum way

Within the reserve of Monterotondo you can walk a long stretch of the ancient Via Nomentana, which connected Nomentum and Eretum.

Along the basalt way various funerary buildings are visible dated between the first century BC and the first century AD.

It was the custom of the Romans to bury the dead along the main roads outside built-up areas.

Many of the materials found during archaeological excavations are exhibited in the archaeological museum of Monterotondo.
