Mompeo. Archaeological sites of the Roman period

The Archaeological sites of the Roman period of Mompeo includes the ruins of ancient roman rustic villas, of the cryptoporticos and of the funerary monuments dating from the second century AD.

It suggests a connection of the town of Mompeo with Salaria Road, built by Romans to connect the capital with Rieti.

The hypothesis is supported by a memorial milestone dating from the time of Augustus (15-16 BC) showing the distance of XXXV miles from Rome.
