Camerata Nuova. The "arks" and the old Camerata Ark Builders

The 'arks' are special wooden chests used to contain food, clothing and work tools.

They were the main furniture in the houses of the village and were characterized by being made without the use of nails using seasoned beech wood.

This allowed easy disassembly and reassembly.

Their recorded use dates back at least to 1780, but should be much older.

The skilled artisans (ark builders), who cut the beech wood that was very plentiful around the village, and built them are called 'Arcari'.
