Arpino. Saturn's Tomb

Arpino. Saturn's Tomb

The so-called Saturn's Tomb in Arpino is located along the Via Vitularia, also called “Iocca Dell'Ova” that can be traced back to the end of the first century AD.

The structure is about 6 meters high and is built with irregular cobblestones connected by mortar. Nearby were found funerary artifacts. Alongside the ‘tomb’ has also been found an ancient station post of the Via Vitularia.

According to an ancient tradition, this was the funeral monument and tomb of the mythical God Saturn, founder of Arpino and many other towns in Southern Lazio.
