Casalvieri. Pescarolo Archaeological Area

The Archaeological Area of Pescarolo in Casalvieri is centered around the Sanctuary of Palsolo, which in the past was on the main road of trade and culture of southern Lazio.

It is located in a strategic position, defended by the sighting center located on the hill of Vicalvi. The sanctuary in the pre-Roman Hellenistic age was an 'emporium', ie a part of it was given in concession to foreign merchants to trade their wares. The merchants had personal immunity and were free to carry on their business. A sort of modern 'free zone'.

During the Roman period, the sanctuary was transformed into a thermal center fed by the sulphurous waters that naturally appear in the Pescarolo area.
