Castelforte. The Village

The original centre of Castelforte is enclosed in the outer walls with towers which was accessed through the Holy Gate.

In the highest point is found the town tower and the oldest church of San Giovanni Battista.

The church was later enlarged in the seventeenth century with aisles and inside you will find three valuable eighteenth century statues: St. John the Baptist, St. Peter the Apostle and the Virgin of the Rosary, works by the Neapolitan sculptor Domenico Muollo.
