In the small area of Pace in Pescorocchiano is the Macchiatimone castle, one of the most relevant that overlooks the gorges of the river Salto.
The first information dates back to the twelfth century, when Gentile Vetulo was its feudal lord and it was part of the Kingdom of Naples.
Towards the middle of the thirteenth century it became the main stronghold of the defensive structure organized by Frederick II.
At the end of the thirteenth century it passed to the Papal State and in the sixteenth century and was given to the Savelli family.
In the early seventeenth century the castle was abandoned and today only ruins remain including the square tower of the fortress and two cylindrical towers of the walls.
