Castro dei Volsci. Archaeological Area Santa Maria del Piano

In Santa Maria del Piano, in the lower area of Castro dei Volsci, numerous remains of several rustic Roman villas were found, namely the villas where agricultural products were grown, today known as the Santa Maria Archaeological Area of the Piano.

Settlements include thermal springs and a necropolis, and operated between the 1st century BC and the 7th century AD when the arrival of Barbarians and Saracens began and populations took refuge in fortified hills.
