Frasso Sabino. Cave of Masacci

The Cave of Massacci is a monumental tomb of the second century BC located within an eighteenth-century farmhouse in the territory of the Osteria Nuova of Frasso Sabino.

This funeral monument was constructed by superimposing huge limestone blocks without the use of mortar or other binder.

It is attributed to the ancient and powerful family of landowners of Bruttii Praesentes.

The monument has the shape of Tholos (round stone structure), with a long corridor in local travertine that leads into the tomb itself, a square room with a cross-vault.
