Cineto Romano. Morge bottomless hole

The Morge well, also called the hole, is a true geological singularity, a deep cavity at the foot of the Morge mountain in Cineto Romano. The well has a diameter of about 3 meters and a depth of over half a kilometer, it seems to have no bottom and is the deepest in Italy.

It is not known whether its formation is natural or due to the work of man. Pliny believed it to be connected to the Acqua Marcia while Sextus Julius Frontinus, governor of Britain and curator of the waters, says that this ancient water flows from various springs.

In the ancient chronicles of the Terra di Scarpa (the ancient name of Cineto Romano), in the 16th century, it is said that it was used as a "prison for capital crimes". But the well is surrounded by many tales of monsters and mysteries that make it an esoteric place.
