The earliest evidence of the Etruscan city of Tarquinia dates back to the ninth century BC and comprises an area of approximately 150 hectares.
There are many remains of habitation, which are visible among the ruins of a temple, Ara della Regina, which dates from the fourth century BC.
The temple had a single cell and a colonnade and was built of tufa and wood.
