Pomezia. Lavinium

The site of ancient Lavinium in Pomezia was well known and since excavations began in 1955.

A number of bronze age sites have been found such as the sanctuary of 13 altars and the Heroon (Shrine) of Aeneas, a burial mound from the seventh century BC, that could be the tomb of Aeneas.

The walls and gate of the city, baths and a temple dedicated to Minerva also have been found. (see also Archeological Museum).
