Castel Sant'Angelo. Paterno pond

Lake Paterno is the ancient Lake of Cutilia (Umbilicus Italiae according to the Varro) of Castel Sant'Angelo, the lake sacred to the goddess Vacuna, who became the goddess Victoria in Roman times.

In this area, identified as “Aquae Cutiliae”, the sacred rites Ver Sacra took place, the Sabine rites that would have given rise to numerous Italic populations (Piceni, Irpini, Pentri, Frentani) for the generation of new peoples.
