Santi Cosma e Damiano. Path of Remembrance: the Gustav Line

The Gustav Line had been built by the Germans to stop the advance of the allies to Rome and it was a natural barrier for the enemy.

Along this route the most bitter and bloody battles took place between 1943 and 1944.

The territory of Santi Cosma e Damiano was crossed by the Gustav Line and today is part of the 'path of remembrance'.

The town was subject to bombing and the civil population suffered harassment and rape. The territory was awarded the gold medal for civil valour.
