Monteleone Sabino. Roman Amphitheatre

Monteleone Sabino. Roman Amphitheatre

On the road leading to the sanctuary of Santa Vittoria in Monteleone Sabino, there are the impressive remains of an ancient roman amphitheatre.

The elliptical complex, 94 x 66 meters, has two main entrances on the major axis.

All around is a limestone pavement while, under the auditorium, there are some areas in simple black and white mosaic floors or bricks.

During the excavations two inscriptions were found that resemble a reconstruction made by the Emperor Trajan.
