Valentano. Submerged village of Mezzano

Lake Mezzano is a Nature Reserve of volcanic origin and it was identified by scholars as the Lacus Statoniensis described by Seneca and Pliny the Elder.

In 1971 a prehistoric village was discovered dating back to the Bronze Age with the wooden structures of the stilts, ceramic containers, bronze tools (axes, swords, buckles, pins) and wooden artefacts.

The ceramic finds are from between the fifteenth and tenth century BC.
