The Acquaviva castle, or the Old Vallecorsa, is a historical and natural site of extraordinary interest and beauty.
The castle decayed with the crises of the fourteenth century, in effect to disappear towards the end of the fifteenth century. For many years it served as the military settlement function then was abandoned by the people who all went to new Vallecorsa, perhaps around the parish church of Santa Maria.
In the sixteenth century, the settlement was plundered and destroyed by the band of the famous bandit in Abruzzo, Marco Sciarra, who had his headquarters in the castle of Itri.
Acquaviva was a border post between the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the Papal States, and this is why it was called "no man's land" or "land of the robbers."
Today you can see its ruins, the walls, the cisterns, the remaining material is used for the agricultural and pastoral life of the population.
