Its original name was attributed to it when the Cardinal Flavio Chigi, returning from a trip to France, decided to build a villa in Formello on the model of Versailles.
The complex consisted of four buildings: the main house, the dovecote (pigeon house), the chapel, the casino. The villa was left in magnificent but from the Cardinal's death, no one took care of its maintenance.
In 1908 the roof was finally dismantled to build a villa in Castel Fusano.
Only the pigeon house continues to be used by the birds. The Villa is the property of the Maremma Board.
