Castel Gandolfo. Villa di Publius Clodio Pulcro

Along the Appian Way, inside the Pontifical North American College of Castel Gandolfo, is the remains of a Roman villa of the Republican era.

The villa seems to belong to the tribune Publius Clodius Pulcher, according to indications by Cicero.

In the vicinity of this villa, Clodio was killed by men of a political opponent Tito Annio Milone in 54 AC.

The remains of the villa include a paved access, a portico of granite, the whole north-west structure.

The construction was made of small irregular blocks of tuff, a typical construction technique Republican age and the villa dates back to the second century BC.
