Sabaudia. Emperor Domitian Villa

Along the shores of Lake Sabaudia stands the Villa of Domitian which extends over an area of over 45 hectares, built by the Emperor between 81-96 AD, a place used and appreciated by the patricians as a holiday resort.

Inside the Villa you can admire an outdoor swimming pool, a small theater, a gym and a collective toilet and an impressive seaside building with a spa.

During excavations in the 1700s, two amazingly fascinating finds were found, a statue of Apollo preserved today in the museum of Kassel in Germany, and a statue of a Satyr with a transverse flute kept in the Vatican Museums.

Near Lake Paola and Domitian's residence are the ruins of the "Casarina", also a Roman villa in the Middle Ages transformed into a small convent.
