The village of Pratica di Mare is a small town centre in the Castle Borghese in the area of Pomezia. The original nucleus dates back to the seventh century BC (see Lavinium).
The village was probably the work of the Benedictine monks in about 700 A.D. Pope Marino I in 882 entrusted the village to the monks of St. Paul Outside the Walls who remained there until the fifteenth century.
In 1432 it passed to the Capranica family, then to the Massimo Princes and in 1617 to the Borghese who still are the owners.
The castle tower was destroyed during the Second World War.
