Alatri. Church of Our Lady of Portadini

The Church of Our Lady of Portadini is located outside the city of Alatri walls near the gate of the same name.

It was a stopping place for the farmers on their way between the city and the fields.

It consists of a unique hall and has a simple facade with a main door, two side windows and a central window.

Inside is a renaissance icon depicting a Madonna nursing to which is attributed a miraculous event described in Alatri archives.

In 1619 the icon was hit by a rock on the cheek and the portrait of the Virgin Mary he showed a swollen cheek and it started to bleed.

The image is venerated on the day of the feast of Our Lady of the Resurrection.

The church is the seat of the Confraternity of Santa Maria Assunta of the Resurrection.
