The church of San Silvestro is located in the medieval area of Alatri called Piagge and was built between the tenth and eleventh centuries in a single nave in the Romanesque style.
In 1331 the building was expanded with the addition of the left aisle and sacristy.
The Romanesque style is reflected in the simplicity of the external lines and, indoor, in the sobriety with the ceiling made of wooden trusses.
The church has two naves and the main one ends with an apse next to which is the wonderful twelfth century fresco of San Silvestro with the dragon.
Other frescoes of the church date back to the twelfth and fifteenth century and are representations of the New Testament and Saints.
A small staircase within the Church leads to the crypt, an irregular area with ancient Byzantine-style frescoes representing a Holy Blessing.
