Bassiano. Church of St Nicola of Bari

The church of St Nicola of Bari in Bassiano, dates back to the 13th century but was rebuilt after the bombing during the Second World War.

The interior is divided into two naves: the central one has a roof with wooden trusses while the side has a cross-vaulted roof.

The walls are adorned with frescoes that tell the story of the saints, including a detail depicting a woman hit by the plague.

Above the high altar a fresco represents the Virgin with Child.

In the central nave there is a precious oil painting on a panel depicting Christ created by the Renaissance painter Girolamo Siciolante da Sermoneta.
