The cathedral of Saints Peter and Catherine in Ronciglione which was begun around 1630 by Pietro da Cortona design, was revised in 1671 by Carlo Rainaldi and was completed in 1695.
It is an imposing building and the dome has a height of 36 metres and rises 79 metres from the bottom of the cliff.
The baroque building is grafted on the foundations of the old cathedral of which the bell tower is visible.
The construction delays were due to a dispute over the height of the dome that could not be more important than that of St. Peter and then the competition between the various organisations on the richness of their chapels.
The facade has two architectural levels: the lower, ionic, and Baroque at the top.
Among the masterpieces shown are the triptych of the Holy Saviour, that the painter from Viterbo Gabriele Di Francesco painted in the second half of the 1400s, and the left altar, made of multicoloures marble and decorated with an altarpiece by Giuseppe Ghezzi depicting the Madonna del Rosario.
