Sezze. Cathedral of Santa Maria

Legend has it that Sezze was Christianized by Luke the Evangelist and that he dedicated a church where now stands Santa Maria.

The present church of saint Mary dates from the thirteenth century, then radically changed in 1400 to the point that the current entry is in the apse, and also the canopy was relocated.

Inside, you can see a Baroque wooden canopy above the altar imitating the more famous one in Saint Peter in Rome.

The choir along the side walls dates back to 1731.
