This chapel of Santa Maria di Cavamonte in Gallicano nel Lazio of the seventeenth century has been made out of the tufa wall along the stretch of raod where the ancient Via Prenestina ran.
It consists of one room with a barrel vault and the facade is very simple: a plain door with two side windows.
This was the classic style of chapels along the main roads where travellers would stop and look at the sacred images from the windows along the way.
On the opposite side is a chamber tomb with niches, also carved in the tufa.
