Valentano. Church of St. John the Evangelist

Valentano. Church of St. John the Evangelist

In Valentano, the original Romanesque church of St. John the Evangelist dates from the twelfth century.

The current structure is the result of a series of renovations in the fifteenth century.

On the front doors were placed the coats of arms of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, of Cardinal Bentivoglio, who was the Bishop of Montefiascone, and of the Community of Valentano.

The interior of the church is Baroque style.

It is possible to admire a valuable fresco of the Crucifixion, attributed to Marcello Venusti disciple of Michelangel; a wooden statue of Our Lady of the Assumption of the seventeenth century; a Madonna, the Puglia artist Corrado Giaquinto,

To note a painting of the Madonna with Child and Saints Peter and Paul, created by Mattia Alessandro Farnese called the "painter of Valentano".

Under the main altar is the urn with the relics of Giustino Martire, patron of Valentano.
