The eighteenth-century church of Santa Maria Assunta (also known as the Church of the Capuchin Friars) is located on the opposite side of Piazza Europa to that of San Lorenzo Martyr in San Lorenzo Nuovo.
The two churches are connected by Corso Umberto I, which had been designed according to the rational urban plan of architect Francesco Navone.
The church was annexed to the Capuchin convent until 1810, when the order was suppressed by the French.
The interior has a nave with six side chapels, and you can admire paintings by Father Fedele of San Biagio.
