The church of Santa Maria Assunta in Tarano dates from the twelfth century, as shown by an inscription on the bell tower wall indicating the date of 8 September 1114.
The façade is asymmetrical and in late Romanesque style.
In the thirteenth century the church was enlarged, with the addition of two side aisles.
It was embellished with a beautiful cosmatesco rose window above the portal with a frescoed lunette.
In addition, the five-story tower with clock and mullioned windows was joined to the church.
Inside you can recognize different renovations and on the walls are fragments of frescoes from the second half of the thirteenth century and a fourteenth century painting of the Crucifixion.
