Turania. Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo

The small Marian shrine of Santa Maria del Carmelo in Turania probably dates back to 1300.

Probably it was erected by some disciple of St. Francis, who had passed through these places.

Here is kept an image of the Madonna and Child that was worshiped for over 500 years.

It was considered miraculous, as shown by documents of the Borghese family in 1600.

The church also had a monastery that was destroyed by neglect over time.

The church, protected by fortified walls, has resisted the exigencies of time and can be visited.
