The Church of Santa Maria del Popolo building dates back to 1483, and is an act of thanksgiving to the Virgin for the termination of the terrible plague that raged at that time in Rome and its surroundings.

In the course of time the church has been subjected to various restoration interventions.

In 1657, the l'Immacolata Concezione was declared patroness of Carpineto Romano and on the high altar one of its great pictures with the emblem of the town.

In front of the church there is a portico with five arches formed by pillars; and in the central ones are two heads of animals, a horse and a camel.

The facade has a local stone Renaissance door, surmounted by a cloverleaf rose window.

On the pediment you can admire a bas-relief of the Madonna Enthroned with the Child.

Recently, the restoration of some frescoes in the apse of the church been concluded and that led to the rediscovery of a precious decoration, the Coronation of the Virgin and the series of the Apostles, art of the late 1400s.
