Camerata Nuova. Church of St. Mary of the Assumption

The church of Santa Maria of the Assumption was one of the first works financed by Pope Pius IX.

It was part of the plan for the reconstruction of the town of Camerata Nuova and the pope donated 300 gold crowns.

It was built in 1860 and has a simple neoclassical style with a nave and two side chapels.

Inside you can see a fine wooden statue of St. Anthony the Abbot from the Camerata Vecchia church, and a statue in peperino stone from 1600s showing the Madonna della Pietà.
