Marcetelli. Church of St. Mary’s in Villa

The church of St. Mary’s in Villa was built in Marcetelli the eleventh century.

It is located on the southernmost tip of the Holy Mountain at height of 1,000 m.

It is first mentioned in the Bull of Pope Lucio III of 1182, "determining the boundaries of the Rieti Diocese".

Inside it has some beautiful frescoes from the same period.

You can see the coronation of the Virgin hailed by the Angels, attributed to the Abruzzo school of painting.
