Casape. Church of St. Peter the Apostle

The church of St. Peter the Apostle in Casape is known for two works of art: one ancient and one modern.

The first is the famous wooden crucifix from the first half of the thirteenth century, to which are attributed miraculous virtues such as having saved Casape from the plague in 1656.

The modern work, produced by Peppino Borgia, is a reproduction of Michelangelo's Pieta in fiberglass, suggestively coloured.

The chosen colour, an intense blue for the mantle and the veil of the Madonna, was inspired by medieval iconography of colourful wooden statues that were placed in the churches.

The colour was an element that made them closer to the understanding of the faithful and brought them closer to the divine in an exciting fashion.
