Castel San Pietro Romano. Church of St. Peter the Apostle

In the church of St. Peter in Castel San Pietro Romano you can recognise all the changes that have been made over the centuries.

The church was founded on Roman remains and was destroyed in the eighth century.

A first renovation occurred in 1200 and then a virtually complete rebuilding in 1732, by the will pope of Clement XII.

He enlarged the church and built a porch as well as redoing all the decorations inside.

At the entrance, you can see two Roman artifacts used as holy water fonts (II and IV century AD).
