Formia. Monastery Santa Maria of a walnut tree

The Hermitage and the ruins of the former monastery of Santa Maria del Noce in Formia date back to the eleventh century.

It was built by the Cassinese Benedictine monks.

The dome and the bell tower are of Byzantine origin.

There are two aisles and XVI century paintings depicting the Virgin and Child with a walnut tree.
