Borgorose. Old Church of Saint Francis

According to tradition, the Church of Saint Francis in Corvaro, along the slopes of the Duchess mountains in Borgorose, would be the eighth monastery founded by St. Francis of Assisi who stayed here.

The church dates from the thirteenth century and the façade is Romanesque-Abruzzese style, with Gothic touches.

The interior has a single nave and altar. You can admire a wooden altarpiece representing Christ on the cross.

The abandoned monastery, attached to the church, is surrounded by an ancient cemetery.
