Piglio. Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Roses

Piglio. Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Roses

The sanctuary of the Madonna of the Roses is also called the "Most Holy Mother" .

It is situated in the lower part of Piglio and there Our Lady of the Roses is venerated with great devotion.

The image of the Madonna is set on a rock and protected by a votive chapel.

Every year on October 30, in memory of the liberation from the plague of 1656 that decimated the population Piglio celebrates the Madonna.

The feast starts with a solemn procession that carries the statue of the Madonna of the Roses from the church of Santa Maria Assunta, through the town to the shrine.

In the sanctuary, there is a fresco of the fourteenth century depicting the Madonna and Child with a book in hand, the sacred procession vestments, crosses, lanterns and banners, many votive offerings and the wooden statue of Our Lady of the Roses with child Jesus in her arms.
