The sanctuary of Saint Anatolia began as a small rural church in Castel di Tora.
Later, the buildings of a convent of Capuchin friars was added.
Saint Anatolia is venerated mainly in Castel di Tora, but her fame makes it a reference point for the faith of the whole surrounding area.
Anatolia was a young Christian who was martyred, along with Sant'Audace, under the Roman emperor Decius in 252.
On the place of her sacrifice in the eighth century was erected a Benedictine church and, in 1870, the current sanctuary.
The body is kept in Benedictine monasteries of Subiaco and many pilgrims arrive in the early days of July for the feast of Saint Anatolia.
