In a fissure in the mountain of Gaeta the Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity church was built. This baroque church is divided into a nave with a barrel vault and several side chapels.
Several popes came here to pray, including Pope Pius IX, plus sovereigns and saints, including Bernardino da Siena, Ignazio di Loyola, Leonardo da Porto Maurizio, St. Paul of the Cross, Gaspar del Bufalo and San Filippo Neri.
Legend has it that St. Philip Neri had lived inside the Montagna Spaccata where there is a stone bed known today as The bed of St. Philip Neri.
