Castel di Tora. Turano Lake

The lake of Turano has been made to obtain electric energy and to regulate the waters of the river Turano and prevent it affecting the Rieti plain.

The work began in 1936 with the construction of a 'gravity' dam finished in 1938.

The filling of the dam caused the submergence of houses in the valley and the village of Piccolo Colle.

The Turano Lake is also connected with the Lake Salto through a tunnel.

The area of the lake is fully equipped to cater for leisure and the keen naturalist.

You can go horseback riding, hiking, fishing, paragliding, cycling, canoeing, swimming, water skiing, trail bike, enduro, and hunting dog training.
