It is a magnificent Natural Reserve also known by the name of Lake Giulianello and is the third crater lake in the Alban Hills, after those of Castel Gandolfo and Nemi.
It has a perimeter of 1.5 km and is home to a remarkable biodiversity of fauna and flora and the fishing is widely practiced by local enthusiasts.
In 1911 the lake was part of the shooting of one of the first movies called "The Inferno", based on the Hell of Dante: a silent film, in black and white, lasting 15'.
Recently it was discovered in the Vatican Film Library and was restored and presented at the film festival of the Castelli Romani.
In 2007, the Lazio Region has proposed Lake Giulianello to become a Natural Monument.
