Anzio. Torre Caldane and Nature Reserve

Caldane tower in Anzio was erected in the mid-sixteenth century, like other coastal towers of the Lazio coast, and its role was to defend the nearby sulfur mines.

The tower has a circular plan and was originally higher than now.

Tor Caldara Regional Nature Reserve is a protected area and an example of the Mediterranean coast characterized by the prevalence of oaks (Quercus ilex), evergreen oaks with dark green leathery leaves, numerous cork oak (Quercus Suber) and some specimens of Quercus crenata, a botanical rarity.
