Blera. Former Church of San Nicola and Sanctuary of San Senzia

In the historic centre of the village of Blera you can come across a building with religious features and Latin epigraphs in its façade, that today is a cultural centre.

This is the ancient church of San Nicola probably built on a previous building dedicated to San Senzia, which had flourished in the evangelization of these territories in the fifth century.

This was the first church in Blera and the main one until the 13th century.

Inside you can find frescoes and decorations dating back to the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries and some special writing near the area where once stood the high altar.

This writing draws attention to the mystery that surrounds it and concerns an epigraph referring to a warlord coming from Amelia and who died at 34 following a fight.

The epigraph is painted in a fresco with a dark blue background and two crests on the sides.

His brothers in Blera wanted his burial in the church of San Nicola.
