Isola del Liri. Waterfalls

Isola del Liri was founded between two arms of the river Liri each of which gives rise to a waterfall: the "Great Waterfall" and "the Valcatoio Waterfall" (formerly "the Gualcatojo").

The great waterfall is about 27 meters high and is a rare example of a waterfall in the centre of a town.

The waterfall of Valcatoio is less spectacular because its waters were controlled and captured to power a hydroelectric production plant.

Its fall, then, is not vertical but follows an inclined plane.

The third waterfall is that of the Fibreno river which is located in the archaeological park built inside the former Fibreno paper mill.
