The Santa Susanna springs are among the largest springs in Europe and are part of the Nature Reserve of Lakes Lungo and Ripasottile.
The sources generate two rivers: the river of Santa Susanna (which enters the lake Ripasottile) and Channel (Canale) (which enters the river Velino).
The clear cold spring waters are home to a great variety of fish: the stickleback (Gastreolus aculeatus), the torrente trout and rainbow trout.
Among the birds you can see the little grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis), the moorhen (Gallinula choropus) and the grey heron (Ardea cinera).
Here there was a church dedicated to Santa Susanna, martyr under Diocletian, whose cult is still alive and who is celebrated on the third Sunday of August with a procession from the springs.
