Affile. Church of Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian

The small medieval church of Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian is located in the main square of Affile which can be reached by public transport.

Like many churches dedicated to these saints, it was probably built outside the walls to protect citizens from disease and was also used as a medieval hospital where pilgrims stayed. The church appears to date from the 12th century and its simple facade is made of unsquared limestone.

It is entered through a door with a stone arch and ends with a small belfry with a bell.

The interior is covered with a barrel vault and you can see frescoes representing the saints and the Madonna. The church is divided into two floors and the second level is accessed with a small internal staircase.
